Our photo contest 2019 theme “Holiday”

Our photo contest 2019 theme “Holidays”

As we see each year so many nice holiday photos of our guests, we have started a photo contest for the first time in 2014. The theme for 2019 was “Holidays” and everyone who stayed with us between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019 was kindly invited to participate in our photo contest. All guests were free to photograph what he or she wanted, as long as their holidays (in any form)  was on the picture and the picture was taken in the Vendée or in a radius of 100 km around us. A maximum of 1 photo per person.

As we can see below, we have received 48 beautiful and very varied photos. A total of 7 children’s submissions (up to 17 years) and 41 adults.

We have an independent jury that knows our region well, as well as taking photos and / or being able to judge:

Stéphanie ROBARD from the Tourist Office of our municipality Challans-Gois https://www.challansgois-tourisme.fr/

Claudia LAUMEL from Natur’allemand in Givrand www.facebook.com/naturallemand or her website www.naturallemand.com

The jury will meet in January 2020. We are very curious to kwow the winners. For the 2 winners there is a choice of enlarging the winning photo or a package of tasty things from our area.

The photos below are internet quality because of the loading of the photos on our site. Our jury will get to see the original photo that is self-evidently in higher quality.

30 September 2019, Update September 2019

Better late than never our sunny photos from September 2019. It was (even after 13 years) a month of many “firsts” and a number of “last” things. We had someone for the first time who came to stay with us from Holland (Heiloo) to arrive on bike. Martine made a day long cotton candy on the Foire St Michel for the first time in her life. We also participated for the first time in the 12 km long “marche gourmande” in Bouin. We tested a water park in our area for the first time. We ate the last table d’hote this year, the last blackberries of the season. Hemko caught the last shrimp of this season. We also had a lot of fun with the last drink / picnic of this year on the Passage du Gois. We are curious what the summer of 2020 will bring. We are already full of great plans and will keep you informed. Have a nice weekend!

31 August 2019, Update August 2019

Summer has flown by! For you too? Herewith a sunny overview of the month of August. The warm weather (or our thirsty guests) meant that this year we had to load empty bottles into our car for the glass bin in Port du Bec more often then usual. Due to the heat, the fig harvest was below par, but Martine has made many other jams for our B&B guests this winter. Many great events were organized in our municipality (photos of the weekly evening market in Sallertaine, a farmers market and concert on 15th August and Les Insolites) and Martine also helped organize an event in our village in September. Of course we have as always been happy to fish shrimp and clams with our guests, we threw our cross nets into the water at the lock, Hemko harvested seasalt (under the watchful eye of Thierry), we were in Port du Bec with the big tides in August and for a change, we cooked with salicorne and smoked mackerel for the table d’hote. Soon our overview of September.

21 July 2019, A wonderful summer! July 2019

Time flies when you are having fun! Our guests (and we too) enjoy everything that is organized around us to the fullest. Ao a nice kite festival and the running competition on the Passage du Gois. We have learned from our mistakes in the past and during the Foulees du Gois we block our own parking. Thanks to the drone of our guest Jorgen, we now also have beautiful pictures of our little paradise from above, as well as from the dyke and sea behind our house. As always, Martine is enjoying cooking with the products of the season for our table d’hote. With the wonderful summer weather we have often eaten in the evenings next to the pool. The tomatoes in the greenhouse are ripe, but otherwise it is a bit quiet this year in our vegetable garden. Our flower garden is a sea of colors. All our new plants have grown well and are already in full bloom. Quite a few yuccas even fell over, as there were so many flowers this year.
